The All-Union Aerospace Defence Forces, colloquially known as the Aerospace Forces or just the Air Force, is one of four branches of the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union. It is responsible for all military and national defence affairs related to aerospace and outer space, including the defence of the country's airspace and its satellite colonies, and the operation and maintenance of its network of anti-aircraft batteries and early warning systems as well as the maintenance and launching of military satellites. It is the largest air force in the world with over 6,500 manned and 918 unmanned aircraft, and is the only military force currently operating orbit- and reentry-capable manned military spacecraft (the Delta V and XR2 Vanguard).
