Ramallah (Arabic: رام الله rām allāh; lit. "loft of God") is a Sunni city located in the West Bank territory of Palestine. It is the seat of Ramallah County. Located only 10 kilometres north of East Jerusalem, the city is home to many foreign embassies and other international NGO headquarters, due to the contested status of Jerusalem (many nations do not recognize either Palestine's or Israel's claim to the city or part of the city as their capital). Ramallah is also the location of the Mukataa, headquarters of the State Secretariat of Defence.
Ramallah is home to more corporate headquarters than any other Palestinian city, including Jerusalem, and it is thus considered the commercial capital of Palestine.
