The Palestinian Armed Forces (Arabic: قوات مسلحة فلسطينية quwāt muslaḥah falasṭīnīyah) are the military forces of the Republic of Palestine. The Palestinian Armed Forces are subordinate to the Ministry of Defence, and consist of four service branches: the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Gendarmerie. The chiefs of staff of each branch make up the Office of the General Staff, which answers directly to the Minister of Defence.
In 2017, the budget for the armed forces was approximately $22 billion, almost 10% of national GDP. The active services command a total of 301,300 personnel, and the reserves approx. 330,000 personnel, for a total of 631,300 members. This excludes the militias of the National Guard, numbering around 159,000 personnel, which operate outside the structure of the armed forces and the authority of the Ministry of Defence.
