Mount Scopus (Arabic: جبل المشهد jabal al-mashhad; lit. "mount lookout") is a borough of East Jerusalem, Palestine, located north of Sheikh Jarrah and the American Colony and south of Kiryat Selah. Its elevation affords it a great view of the Old City; historically, control of Mount Scopus meant the difference between defending Jerusalem and losing it to invaders. Today, it is home to the main campus of al-Quds University and many Palestinian government buildings including the Cabinet of Palestine and Palestine Arab Congress on Nablus Road.
