The Korean People's Public Security (KPPS) is the primary civilian law enforcement agency in Korea. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Public Security and operates under the umbrella of the State Affairs Commission. In addition to public security and law enforcement, the agency also operates the prison and correctional system and emergency dispatch call centre, as well as the neighbourhood watch, confidential informant and witness relocation programs. The agencies under the Ministry of People's Security responsible for provost (military police) duties and customs/border security are separate from the KPPS.
