The Court of Appeals of Palestine (Arabic: محكمة الاستئناف الفلسطينية maḥkamat al-isti’ināf al-falasṭīnīyah) is the national appellate court of the Republic of Palestine. It has the power to hear appeals and overturn rulings of district and county courts (the courts of first instance), and is the second highest judicial authority in the country, subordinate only to the Supreme Court of Palestine. The Court of Appeals also reviews civil rulings in the Palestinian civil (small claims) court system; due to the confessional nature of the civil courts, rulings made on the basis of a specific community's religious law are secularised if appealed, as the Court of Appeals functions only within the framework of Palestinian common law which is secular.
